An Iranian Birth Certificate (BC) or shenasnameh is a booklet containing vital records of each Iranian individual.  It provides a detailed description regarding all aspect of one’s life such as information about:

• Name and family name of the beholder
• Date of birth in Iranian and lunar calendar
• Parental name and their information
• The serial number of documents
• The individual issuing the BC
• Marital status, name of spouse, divorce, and any death(s) of the spouse(s)
• Name and birth information of all children
• Voting status and participation in elections
• Any necessary comments by Iranian authorities regarding the individual such as aliases, previous names, or other nationalities the BC holder may have
•  Death of the beholder of the documents, which is obviously the last section of the BC

Therefore, your birth certificate must be regarded as the most important Iranian document that you have and should be kept dearly and safely. According to Iranian laws, this information is private and must be kept confidential and cannot be shared without the beholder’s direct consent.
Never send your original Iranian birth certificate through regular shipping methods.  It is a good idea to have to keep scanned copies of all the pages of your BC for your records in a safe place.
